Garb and Armor
Garb can come in almost infinite varieties, from high fantasy costumes to strict historical clothing. Some fighters take great pride in their garb and either make it by hand or buy it from a capable tailor. Others simply wear the minimum required garb needed to play. At national events and to use unique weapons on Numenor's field, you must have at least minimum garb
If you are making garb or already have some that you are thinking of using, remember a few things:
- Don't forget pants! Jeans disqualify what you're wearing as garb.
- Remember that fighting can be pretty stressful on your clothes. Keep your dress wear for feast nights at national events
- Be sure that your garb won't interfere with play in any way. That means staying away from anything that could get caught on weapons or might trip someone up.
- Don't be afraid to go simple for your first set of garb. You'll get plenty of chances to refine your style over time
- If you plan to eventually join up with a unit, you may have to partially or completely change what you're wearing.
Minimum Garb
The minimum amount of garb is defined as the following:
- A tunic or tabard covering the torso.
- Neutral colored t-shirts, with no visible printing, or sports bras may be worn underneath a tunic or tabard.
- Wearing nothing on the torso is acceptable for men.
- Baggy pants or trousers covering the legs.
- Skirts, Kilts, and Dresses are acceptable substitutes.
- Footwear should be muted colors, boots are preferred athletic shoes should be of a dark color and not unnatural. Barefoot or Sandals are acceptable.
- Any piece of modern equipment or clothing required out of medical necessity overrules the minimum garb requirements.
- Forbidden items:
- T-shirts that are brightly colored, white, with visible logos, with visible collars, and or visible pockets.
- Camouflage or military issued cargo pants.
- Modern jeans of any color.
- Modern hats.
- Any fabrics with modern prints.
- Any realistic weapons.
Armor
Although most garb is just for show, armor affects gameplay; it adds an extra hit to the area beneath it. Armor does not need to cover the whole body, and many players will simply wear enough to protect their arms or legs without a chest piece. There are very strict requirements as to what qualifies as legal armor, so check out the rules for more details. Armor also uses some language you might be unfamiliar with. Here are the names of a few armor pieces and what they cover:
- Bracers - forearms
- Greaves - shins
- Pauldron - shoulder
- Gorget - neck
Leather
Leather armor is very light as well as relatively cheap to buy and sturdy, so this is the most common armor type seen on the field. It is also easy to find bracers or greaves in leather, so this is a favorite for fighters who only need to protect a specified area.
Metal
Metal armor comes in two varieties: chain and plate. Chainmail is seen far more often, usually in the form of a shirt due to its flexibility and practicality.
Helms
Helms will protect you from any head kill shot from a missile weapon. Like all other armor, helms must be made of period materials.
